In today’s culture, we often look back at the years that have past and remember them fondly. This collection, named “Cinema II,” by Claire Pestaille brings back the golden years with hauntingly beautiful collages. Piece by piece, the London-based artist works with historic and iconic photographs from the golden age of Hollywood, and turns them into a single piece of art with a new meaning. These pieces of nostalgia can invoke several emotions; fear, lust, and longing, to name a few. “Sliced in vertical strips the portraits are layered to form surreal visual experiences and optical sensations of vibration, movement and metamorphosis.” Pestaille’s work shows the beauty of old times and celebrates a period in history that we won’t soon forget.
